Peacock’s new horror series Teacup, created by Ian McCulloch and produced by James Wan, is a unique blend of genres. It combines elements of rural family drama, sci-fi horror, and explores the fears and anxieties that come with isolation. The show’s ensemble cast faces a deadly mystery, creating tones that range from tense to outright harrowing.
Speaking to the cast of Teacup, you wouldn’t guess the tension they portray onscreen. Instead, they talk about the enthusiasm for McCulloch’s story, the instant bonds formed as actors, and the fun that permeates the genre adventure.
How the Cast of Teacup Came Together for the Peacock Horror Series
Based on Robert McCammon’s novel Stinger, Teacup follows a group of neighbors trapped on a farm in rural Georgia by a mysterious, deadly force. With limited resources and answers, they must survive while unraveling the mystery to find a way out.
Despite the tense scenario, the cast didn’t feel the same tension on set. Yvonne Strahovski, who plays Maggie Chenoweth, said, “It really came together very naturally. We all shared a vision for how we wanted it to play out.”
The welcoming environment extended to newcomers like Rob Morgan, who plays a mysterious stranger in a gas mask. He noted, “It was like everybody was moving as one unit. No egos being displayed.”
The cast united in their enthusiasm for the material, embodying human characters navigating a strange situation. When the horror and sci-fi elements came in, it added to the fun, creating an environment of pure play.
Chaske Spencer, who plays Ruben Shanley, described it as playing in a sandbox with more expensive tools. The ensemble cast bounced off each other, creating performances that the audience can relate to.
Teacup premieres on October 10 on Peacock, with new episodes every Friday in October leading up to the two-episode finale on Halloween.
