According to showrunner Leslye Headland, the costume design for the main villain in Star Wars: The Acolyte was partially inspired by Elden Ring.
In an interview with Inverse, Headland discusses the decision to portray Qimir, also known as The Stranger, as a Sith character without armor. She mentioned how playing Elden Ring influenced this choice, particularly when encountering players who were not wearing any armor, which she found “crazy.” This lack of armor in the game, especially among the mostly naked Tarnished, reminiscent of Elden Ring legend Let Me Solo Her, served as a source of inspiration for Qimir’s costume design.
Headland explained, “Qimir’s character required an understanding of how to use your body without being weighed down by armor. We wanted to give him a flowing outfit. When I mentioned he wouldn’t have armor, it sparked a discussion. I questioned why wear armor if you’re not going to get hit? It’s similar to the Elden Ring costume aesthetic. When you summon players in the game, you often see those who are not wearing any armor and it’s like, ‘These people are fearless.'”
Headland also shared some advice on facing the challenging bosses in Elden Ring, emphasizing the need for an aggressive approach. “You have to be offensive, especially with the bosses. Don’t back down or panic. Roll into the action,” she advised.
Episode 6 of The Acolyte airs tonight.
