If you’re in search of a dose of XCOM with a touch of World War 2-inspired realism and true stories, Forgotten But Unbroken has a Steam demo available.
Highlighted during The Future Games Show’s Summer Showcase, Forgotten but Unbroken is a turn-based strategy game that draws comparisons to XCOM, with soldiers positioned on a map awaiting commands. Be cautious in your movements.
What sets it apart, according to developer Centurion Developments, is its commitment to realism. There are no magical abilities or healing powers here, only strategy and military strength.
In addition to tactical gameplay, managing your base is crucial. While you can’t heal through potions, you can send soldiers to the med bay and train them to maintain morale. Deciding between hospitals and armories is up to you, considering factors like weather and disease alongside military needs.
The game’s story is based on real events and characters from World War 2, carefully selected by the developers. Commander Martin’s story, deeply impacted by the war, takes center stage. Players will also come across items tied to historical events, such as newspaper articles covering the Battle of Kursk or the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich.
If this interests you, Forgotten But Unbroken is set to release this year, with a demo currently available.
