Raven is currently being controlled by Trigon and is on a path towards world dominance in Titans #9. Writer Tom Taylor delivers a strong second installment of the “Dark-Winged Queen” arc, as the team deals with Beast Boy’s public relations crisis while Trigon plots to take over the earth. What stands out in this issue is the sense of direction in the story, a welcome change from previous messy tie-in events. The dynamic between Trigon and Waller adds an intriguing element to the narrative, with Waller asserting her power over the demon. Wes Abbott’s lettering effectively captures the tone of the dialogue, especially with the unique styles for different characters, including Raven. Artist Lucas Meyer’s illustrations are clean and expressive, creating a visually appealing comic. However, there are some drawbacks, such as the misleading cover and the repetitive narrative arcs in the series. The use of mind control as a plot device hinders the development of relationships within the team, particularly Nightwing’s leadership role. Moving forward, it is hoped that the series will focus more on exploring the dynamics of the team rather than relying on familiar storylines. Despite its flaws, Titans #9 is a solid read with great art and engaging dialogue, but it falls short in addressing larger structural and characterization issues. Overall, a score of 5.5/10 is given, with the recommendation for fans of Trigon and those willing to give the series a chance to improve.
