TOP 5 NEW Comics This Week: Identity Reveals, Final Kill Counts, and First Appearance Fire for 4/3/24.
Sometimes the best way to build hype is to say nothing at all—and that’s exactly what Marvel’s been doing with one of this week’s biggest releases. While the rest of the comic world keeps spinning, Marvel quietly planted the seeds for a reveal that’s about to explode with speculation. Collectors live for this. The ambiguity, the variant covers pretending they aren’t clues, the internet theories tossed around like candy—it’s the long game that ends in a single panel and a mad scramble for whichever issue ends up being the key. Welcome to New Comic Book Day where first appearances, reappearances, character deaths, and multiversal carnage rule the speculative floor. This week, Marvel and Spawn’s universe toss in heavy contenders, but only five make the cut for the Top 5 Comics This Week.
The focus? First appearances. New villains. Big creative returns. Variant covers you’re going to regret not grabbing. These picks were made with one thing in mind—value. Not the guaranteed kind, but the kind that makes collectors pay attention and speculators circle like sharks. Here’s what you should care about this Wednesday, and why each of these comics might be the sleeper hit, the instant sellout, or the one with a twist you didn’t see coming.

All-New Venom #5
Marvel’s bait-and-switch tactics have finally paid off. After four issues of deliberate misdirection, half-truths, and more red herrings than a murder mystery dinner, All-New Venom #5 lifts the curtain on who the All-New Venom actually is. And no, it wasn’t a wild card. The answer has been hiding in plain sight. Marvel’s symbiote guessing game has kept speculators busy, particularly with the “Suspect” variant covers featuring nearly every character under the sun. And while some variants may have been pure smokescreens, others seem dangerously close to spoiler territory—one in particular might just give it away. This reveal isn’t just another costume swap, either. There’s an entire character arc embedded in this identity, and if history is any indication, a new Venom means new heat. M.O.D.O.K. also enters the picture because nothing says chaotic symbiote energy like a floating murder head looking to dissect you. And let’s not ignore the Erik Larsen variant, which exists for a single reason: to make every ’90s kid scream internally with nostalgia. Whether this new Venom sticks around or not, this issue will be remembered—and it’ll likely see multiple reprints if the reveal gains traction.
Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time #1
Because one murder spree wasn’t enough, and two still didn’t wrap things up, Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time #1 promises to finally finish what Cullen Bunn and Dalibor Talajic started. Of course, “last time” is just another marketing term in comics, but this issue pulls no punches. Wade Wilson is done with the 616 and is now targeting evil variants across the multiverse. That means readers get the bloodiest versions of their favorite characters turned upside down, hulked-out, werewolfed, zombified—you name it. Expect death, destruction, and a gallery of alternate heroes you’ve never seen before. Key first appearances of these variants could turn this issue into more than just a bloodbath. It’s Deadpool’s most insane kill-fest yet, and given Bunn and Talajic’s cult status from the original run, don’t be surprised if this becomes another collector magnet.
Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell #1
There’s something refreshingly bleak about Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell #1. Matt Murdock isn’t flipping off rooftops or dodging bullets this time—he’s older, possibly sicker, and dishing out soup instead of punches. But old heroes never die quietly. When a mysterious stranger releases a deadly gas across Hell’s Kitchen, Matt shifts from local charity work to survival mode. The stakes are personal. This isn’t a Daredevil story about ninjas or magic, but about age, purpose, and consequences. A one-shot with serious narrative depth, it’s also a chance to see a very different Daredevil in action. New characters tied to this outbreak and the man responsible could sneak their way into speculator lists quickly, depending on where Marvel wants this more grounded version of Matt to go.

Black Ritual: The Book of Nyx #1
Nyx has always been one of the more intriguing characters in the Spawn Universe, and Black Ritual: The Book of Nyx #1 finally puts her in the spotlight. She’s not just back—she’s the Queen of Hell now, and she comes with a revamped origin, new motivations, and yes, probably some new enemies. Written by Spawn Editor-in-Chief Thomas Healy with art by Nat Jones, this series promises mythos expansion in a big way. Nyx has always existed in the shadow of Spawn and She-Spawn, but not anymore. This debut issue teases first appearances connected to the Lost Coven, a group with major potential moving forward. This could be one of those books that stays under the radar until it doesn’t—exactly the kind of sleeper that long-term collectors target early. With horror, dark fantasy, and a built-in fanbase, don’t be surprised if this one spikes quietly.
Marvel Rivals #1
From digital favorite to print collectible, Marvel Rivals #1 finally brings the Infinity Comic to the shelves, collecting issues #1-6. If you skipped it online, now’s your chance to snag what could be a low-printed sleeper. Set in Tokyo 2099, the story pits Peni Parker against Spider-Man in a philosophical multiversal face-off about how to restore the shattered Web of Life and Destiny. With the ongoing obsession around multiverse narratives and alternate Spideys, this book fits right into the speculative landscape. It also features some new tech-heavy interpretations of familiar characters that may be seeing print for the first time—prime hunting ground for speculators. And if Marvel continues to bring more digital-only characters into the physical realm, this book could become a blueprint.
