Ultimate Black Panther #7, by Marvel Comics on 8/7/24, finds T’Challa wrestling with the puzzle of how a king can defeat a god (or gods). The answers won’t come easily, but maybe someone can help.
Is Ultimate Black Panther #7 Good?
Wow! Talk about a comic that’s going nowhere fast. To Bryan Hill’s credit, he’s trying his level best to make a plot that’s treading water look interesting, but this is the second issue in a row where nothing of importance happens… at… all.
When last we left T’Challa in Ultimate Black Panther #6, Ra and Khonshu (the combined entity known as Moon Knight) used their superior technology to heal the sick, converting the grateful into zealous terrorists for Moon Knight’s cause. When Black Panther confronted Khonshu during an attack on a manufacturing plant, the two parted ways after a stalemate, agreeing to settle on an all-out war. (Yes, it’s as dumb as it sounds.)
In Ultimate Black Panther #7, we catch up with T’Challa on the battlefield with Killmonger and Storm. The king is conflicted over fighting his people, so he orders his allies to stun and incapacitate without killing.
Later, T’Challa visits Matron Imala to get more information about the green goo that accelerates growth. After a lengthy verbal debate that suggests Vibranium is alive, T’Challa concedes that he doesn’t know how to merge faith and science adequately enough to understand the true nature of Vibranium or its green-goo cousin. He asks his allies to venture into the outside world to find a man who understands the connections between faith and science so that his learning may help defeat the Moon Knight gods.
The issue ends with another battle where T’Challa shows his people he’s tough enough to stand up to the gods.
And that’s it.
What’s great about Ultimate Black Panther #7? Despite the brevity of the issue due to the lack of content, the increasing number of teases that suggest Vibranium and the green goo is something more than we know is interesting. Plus, Caselli’s art is rock solid in both battle scenes.
What’s not great about Ultimate Black Panther #7? There’s nothing here besides a nugget or two. I don’t know if Bryan Hill was told he needed to pause for some timed event or if he doesn’t have any ideas. Either way, nothing is happening in this title.
The plot could be summed up like this. There’s one fight. T’Challa visits the Vodu-Khan for wisdom but only gets a small clue, and then there’s another fight. The end.
There’s not much meat to this review because there’s not much meat to this comic. You could skip this issue and miss nothing.

Final Thoughts
Ultimate Black Panther #7 continues to tread water with great art and one or two interesting clues about the new element, but ultimately, this series is going nowhere fast. Bryan Hill is either out of ideas, or he’s been told to hold steady for the Maker’s return. Regardless of the reason, this issue is a waste of time.
