Welcome back to Upcoming Comics! We have an exciting announcement this week. Batman News is currently in search of new writers! If you’re a passionate fan of Batman comics and want to share your love with the world, follow these steps to join our review team:
Step #1: Introduce yourself. Tell us about your background, where you’re from, and your writing schedule. What makes you a good writer? Have you studied any literature on writing, such as “Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art” by Scott McCloud or “Story” by Robert McKee? What do you know about comic art techniques? We’re looking for reviewers who can provide insightful commentary on both the storytelling and artwork. Additionally, share your personal connection to The Dark Knight. We want to hear about your passion and dedication to Batman, beyond just the popular movies. Share a personal story or highlight your Batman-related achievements, like a Bat tattoo or cosplay.
Step #2: Provide a rundown of your experience with Batman comics. The more comics you’ve read, the better. Mention the comic book eras you’re familiar with and those you’re less familiar with. Which classic graphic novels have you yet to read but feel ashamed of? What are your all-time favorite Batman stories? If you’ve watched every show or played every video game, let us know! The more information you provide, the more seriously we’ll consider your application.
Step #3: Review some comics. This is the ultimate test of your abilities. Write two reviews, each with a minimum of 500 words. One review should be for an issue you liked, and the other for an issue you didn’t like. Both reviews should focus on current comics published within the past year. Don’t worry if your opinion differs from ours; we welcome different viewpoints. Just demonstrate that you’re a skilled writer. Write the reviews in the style of our existing reviews, complete with a “Recommended If” and “Overall” section, and rate them on a scale of 1-10.
Submit your application as a PDF or Word document to ReviewerTryouts@gmail.com. There is no immediate deadline, and we will announce when tryouts are closed. If we like what we see, we’ll reach out to you for further challenges. If you pass these tests, we’ll assign you some books to review. And yes, this is a paid gig with perks like free comics and interview opportunities with DC talent. However, please note that writing comic reviews should be viewed as a passion project rather than a lucrative job. It’s an opportunity to connect with fellow Batman fans and immerse yourself in Gotham City.
Now, let’s move on to this week’s comics:
