Welcome back to Upcoming Comics! As we enter a new year, it’s time for us to reflect on our triumphs and regrets from the past year. It’s safe to say that one of the most common regrets is not reading enough comics, especially Batman comics. Every comic they release is a hit, which is why we’ve been giving them record-breaking 10/10 ratings lately. It’s a tough job finding any flaws to criticize, but we do it because we love you. Let’s take a look at what 2024 has in store for us:
Upcoming Comics
Batman #141 Zur-En-Arrh has done the unimaginable. Now, Batman is isolated from everything and everyone, forced to confront his most formidable enemy in a brutal battle for the future while The Joker’s presence looms over everything. The gripping conclusion to “Mindbomb” is finally here!

Thoughts: Some may argue that having Batman’s secret, crazy subconscious from the TV/movie universe(s) take over his indestructible robot body is a bit over the top, but I believe we passed that point a long time ago.

Birds of Prey #5
As the Birds and the Amazons intensify their fight against Megaera, Dinah and Sin take the battle inside, quite literally. The struggle for Sin’s fate has now truly begun, and not everyone will come out unscathed.

Cover By: Jordie Bellaire, Leonardo Bastos Romero
Thoughts: I hope Kelly Thompson can maintain the great inter-team chemistry that has made this series so enjoyable to read.

Poison Ivy #18
The victims of Pamela Isely’s parasitic outbreak have returned to her. As she confronts her own undead body count, she makes a horrifying discovery about her own strange new body.

Thoughts: Making the main female character unexpectedly pregnant is certainly a dramatic twist, I suppose.

The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #1
A new ongoing series brings together Gotham’s greatest detectives with Crystal Cove’s teenage sleuths! The big top becomes even more thrilling and chilling when a haunted traveling circus enters the scene. But Nightwing realizes just how chilling it is, as this is Haly’s Circus, Dick Grayson’s childhood home!

Cover By: Dario Brizuela, Franco Riesco
Thoughts: The individual comic issues may not sell well and the reviews may not generate enough traffic for us to continue writing about them, but Scooby and the gang keep getting new team-up comics with Batman. I assume they sell well at school book fairs or something.

Beyond the Bat
Welcome to Beyond the Bat, where we take a quick look at the rest of DC’s comics coming out this week.
Graphic Novel Watch
Sometimes you need more than just individual comic issues. Sometimes you want something that can proudly sit on your shelf, displaying your favorite stories. That’s when you turn to graphic novels. Let’s see what Batman collections are releasing this week.
Ratings
Most Excited: Birds of Prey #5 – I’m not typically a big Birds of Prey fan, but Kelly Thompson’s character writing makes this one enjoyable.
Least Excited: Batman #141 – I really hope this concludes the Zur-En-Arrh storyline.
Wild Card: Poison Ivy #18 – At the very least, the cover’s promise could be interesting.
That’s all for this week! Let us know in the comments which comics you’re looking forward to. COMMENTS
