Welcome back to another installment of Indie Comics Showcase, the weekly blog where we signal boost a few truly independent comics that are currently crowdfunding their projects, crowdsourcing their funding in some way, or just completely self-publishing on their own. Every little bit of support for these creators matters, from a single dollar pledge to the twenty-five dollar bundle, and of course the higher tiers are usually fun too! Even if you can’t back a campaign or buy a book, you can share or tweet about these projects to your friends and followers.
On Indie Comics Showcase, we interview the creators, show off some art, and tell you how you can check out the product for yourself. Below we have some outstanding crowdfunding campaigns this week for you to learn about, enjoy, and hopefully support by backing one or more of them! Thanks for checking these out and for being the best part of Indie Comics Showcase. Let’s jump in!

Chris Braly: Welcome to Indie Comics Showcase, Andy! Tell our readers the pitch for Kor-Drath: The Awakening!
Andy Smith: In the Shattered Reach, Kor-Drath, the last of the Red Lions, embarks on a desperate quest to save his love Adryana’s tribe from Vordoom the Undying, an undead creature hell-bent on ruling the Shattered Reach. With the Necra-Knight failing in his initial battle with Kor-Drath now for Vordoom to succeed, he must find all the powerful artifacts hidden within the realm. This tale promises action, magic, and shocking twists! The book is 64-pages and is in full-color! It will be perfect bound.
CB: What inspired this comic? Is this a genre you’ve wanted to explore for a while?
AS: I was inspired to do a fantasy type of character through my love of Conan and Tarzan growing up. I collected and read those comics as a kid and just fell in love with the different worlds and visuals as they were so out of the norm of realistic buildings and such. I never considered another route when it came to publishing the work. When I created Astonishing Comics a few years ago I did it knowing it would be the home moving forward for my creations.
CB: Talk about your creative team that contributed to this project.
AS: My co-creator on this project is Dennis Turner. He is the writer of the project. We will talk over story ideas and then he has the task of crafting the final story I will draw. The task of coloring the book is handled by the incomparable Nanjan Jamberi. He colored volume 1 and brought such a beautiful color palette to the book and really brought the world to life. Stephen Dutro is the letterer for the book and he and I first met when we attended the Joe Kubert School together over 3 decades ago. He is my go to guy for all of my lettering and logo design needs!
