Daredevil: Born Again has undergone significant changes during its filming process. In October, the series brought on board a new showrunner, Dario Scardapane, who previously worked as an executive producer on Netflix’s Punisher series. The series also enlisted new directors, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, known for their work on Moon Knight and season 2 of Loki.
However, recent reports suggest that not everything from the previous Netflix shows will carry over into the new Daredevil series, even though they are now considered canon. Insider Jeff Sneider mentioned on John Rocha’s podcast that nine episodes of the series were filmed before the WGA/SAG strikes but will now be shortened to six episodes under the guidance of the new showrunner. The pilot will be rewritten and reshot. The plan is still to have a total of 18 episodes, but they will be split into two batches of nine episodes each. There will be approximately a year between each batch of episodes, indicating that filming will still be ongoing when the first episode premieres.
As for how canon the new series will be, Jon Rocha explained that Marvel Studios will selectively choose certain aspects from the past shows to include in Daredevil. He stated, “What was not going to be the same Daredevil from Netflix is now going to be the same Daredevil from Netflix, with the asterisk of not everything being canon.”
The cast of the series includes Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, Michael Gandolfini, Colin Woodell, Margarita Levieva, Sandrine Holt, and Nikki M. James.
The series is set to debut exclusively on Disney+ next year.
While waiting for the new series, fans can rewatch the original three seasons of Daredevil’s live-action series, as well as his appearance in the latest Marvel series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, available on Disney+.
