Although he may have had a cameo in the MCU already, Patrick Stewart is set to reprise his iconic role as Professor Charles Xavier in the upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine.
Patrick Stewart, known for his acclaimed portrayal of Professor X in the X-Men film series, will join Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in what is expected to be a groundbreaking film for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In 2022, Stewart returned as a variant of the character in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, only to meet a deadly fate at the hands of Scarlet Witch. Let’s hope his next appearance is less perilous.
Details about the plot of Deadpool & Wolverine are closely guarded, but insiders suggest that the film will explore a multiverse storyline, a theme that has become increasingly prominent in recent MCU projects. This opens up possibilities for crossovers with other beloved characters from the X-Men universe.
In addition to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, other familiar faces from the Marvel (and mostly Deadpool) universe returning for the threequel include Karan Soni, Leslie Uggams, Morena Baccarin, and Stefan Kapicic, who play Deadpool’s sidekick Dopinder, roommate Blind Al, fiancée Vanessa, and mutant Colossus, respectively. Comedian Rob Delaney is also expected to make a comeback in some capacity.
New additions to the franchise will include Hugh Jackman reprising his role as Wolverine, Emma Corrin from The Crown, and Matthew Macfadyen from Succession. Deadpool & Wolverine will be directed by Shawn Levy (Free Guy, The Adam Project), with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick returning as writers. Kevin Feige will produce the film.
Deadline was the first to report this news.
