About the Book:
Valerius is a Roman soldier seeking to help the Roman Empire win the current engagement. The group known as the Gauls do not fear the Roman Empire, so Valerius seeks out something, or more specifically someone they do fear, a Druid. Only to release something that has a power that cannot be controlled, now with a ground of misfits that share a common goal, he seeks yet another Prisoner that even the Druid fears.

This book was a free edition from my LCS, and while I was not entirely sure about it at first, I always try to give books that I get as a gift a try. I will say that I was pleasantly surprised by this story.
Reading through it, with the mix of characters it felt like it could possible be a telling of a story right out of Dungeons and Dragons. We have our full mix of characters that are more or less based on real characters except those that deal with magic.
Having played Dungeons and Dragons I can see the players behind the characters acting this out and being amazed by the storytelling of the DM. They are on a quest to find a weapon that even the big baddie is afraid of.
Imagine my surprise when I read this story about characters that are all from the past and the one person they are seeking to defeat the Druid, is from the future. What a wonderful twist. By standards of the character, the future warrior as he is presented has nothing that I feel can take the Druid out. Unless he has a weapon in his arsenal that can hit the Druid before he even realizes it.
It’s a wonderful plot twist out of the storytelling left field and it left me wanting to read more of the story, and prompting me to go to my favorite LCS and pick up book 2!
The cover artwork is wonderfully done and shows a natural looking tone featuring one of the characters from the band of misfits, and the Druid on the other with a tree that loosely resembles another character dividing them in half. The natural colors mixed with the title are very eye-catching and deceiving at the same time.
The interior artwork is wonderfully well done as well and shows the characters inn their full glory, using clean lines and the proper highlights where needed. While not distracting from the story but simply enhancing it.
Unnatural Order to me seemed to be one of those hidden gems that was a wonderful surprise. If you are a tabletop gamer who gets fully immersed in the story and character, then the band of misfits are something you can relate to, if not, then the story itself is something worth reading and following.
If your find yourself enjoying the first story at all I highly recommend that you follow the continued adventures and see where this leads. I know I will!
