Eddie Brock originally became Venom in 1988. Writer Dave Michelinie, who co-created Venom with Todd McFarlane, is returning to the character’s ’90s heyday in Venom: Lethal Protector, a new limited series where Venom faces off against the Purple Man, one of Marvel’s most manipulative villains.
Michelinie, along with artist Gerardo Sandoval, is exploring an untold chapter of Eddie Brock’s history in Venom: Separation Anxiety, set during the Lethal Protector era. The series showcases Venom in his classic symbiote form in Sandoval’s style, highlighting the character’s monstrous qualities.
Marvel has released a preview of pages from Venom: Separation Anxiety #1, showing Venom in action:
“Amazing Spider-Man legend and Venom co-creator David Michelinie returns with an all-new, heart-pounding tale set in Eddie Brock’s early days!” Marvel’s official description of Venom: Separation Anxiety reads.
“Teaming up with artist Gerardo Sandoval, Venom faces a new enemy in a story that tests their bond like never before, as a foe with reality-altering powers threatens to tear Eddie’s world apart, starting with his symbiote.”
Purple Man, known to MCU fans as the villain in Jessica Jones, recently appeared in the Daredevil: Devil’s Reign crossover, where his mind-control powers were stolen by Wilson Fisk.
Venom: Separation Anxiety #1 will be available on May 15.
Eddie Brock is considered one of the best Venom hosts of all time.
