Top 5 Collectible Comic Books from 2023
Written By: Matthew Page
The comic book market took a dip in 2023 but the publishers did not slow down. As we get to the end of the year, I’d like to look at some of the top collectible comic books from the past year. In this article I am going to focus on key books. Keep an eye out for our top variants of 2023 and top comic book series from the past year as well.
5. Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man #5 – Spider-Man books are always good grabs for collectors, but some just move better than others. This one particularly has trended up in 2023 because it debuts Crystal Catawnee as Dream Spider.
4. Star Wars: The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight #1 – This issue bridges the gap between two phases of the High Republic. Specifically phase 1 and 3. It also has a host of first appearances. These firsts aren’t just any characters either they are majority Jedi’s. Below are all the first appearances from this issue.
Jedi Master Ada-Li Carro
Jedi Master Xo Lahru
Jedi Master Teri Rosason
Jedi Master Soleil Agra
Jedi Master Ry Ki-Sakka
Jedi Master Adampo
Jedi Master Govena
Jedi Knight Ady Sun’Zee
Jedi Youngling Toko
Jedi Youngling Jon
Jedi Youngling Bree
Padawan Amadeo Azzazzo
3. Wonder Woman #800 – I’m not super big on DC speculation but I do know their time will come around soon enough. This book is a cheap long-term hold and debuts Trinity, the daughter of Wonder Woman. The regular priced variant by Daniel Sampere had her front and center. Stash a few of these away when you can.
2. Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures – Quest of the Jedi #1 – Another Star Wars book makes this list because the Star Wars fan base seems to be endless, and it continues to grow!!! This one was published by Dark Horse like the good ole days and has some important firsts. Most important of them being Jedi Knight Barnabus Vim and his Padawan Vix Fonnick. We also get a the first of Master Zin and Azlin Rell.
1. Spider-Man #7 – Dan Slott and Mark Bagley brought us the first appearance of Bailey aka Spider-Boy in this issue. This one looks to be one to hold on to for some time and COULD have the same kind of movement in the future as Mile Morales. He already has his first solo series in 2023. In that issue (Spider-Boy #1 we get the first appearance of Gutterball and Hellifino. While their names are funny and a play on words these two villains mean business.
Is there one you think should be on this list? Let us know what you are speculating on from 2023.
