Update, 5/25 @ 1:15 PM ET: James Gunn has confirmed that Chris Mundy and Damon Lindelof are part of Lanterns. These two, along with DC Comics writer Tom King (who was previously working on a New Gods movie with Ava DuVernay), collaborated on the show’s pilot script and bible. Gunn mentioned that King has been involved with the show since the beginning.
“The DCU series is assembling a talented team of writers,” Gunn stated. “A warm welcome to Chris and Damon as they join the DC Studios family.” He also confirmed that the series will focus on human Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart, featuring art from Gabriel Hardman and Corinna Bechko’s Green Lantern: Earth One. Gunn’s teasing nature suggests that this art may hint at the show’s direction.
Original story: Warner Bros. has been working on a Green Lantern TV series for almost five years now, with occasional leaks of new details about its original concept. Fresh information in 2024 suggests that the show’s writing team is now public knowledge, signaling a potential larger reveal in the near future.
The WGA directories reveal the writers attached to the series. One notable name is Damon Lindelof, known for his work on Lost, The Leftovers, and more recently Mrs. Davis. Lindelof’s previous experience with DC on HBO’s Watchmen miniseries indicates he may have a significant role in this project. Other writers include Chris Mundy and Justin Britt-Gibson, among others.
The writers’ pages list Lanterns as a 2024-2025 show, suggesting a potential launch late in the year. More details on Lanterns are expected in the coming weeks, especially with Comic-Con approaching.
