For GalaxyCon Richmond 2024, we were delighted to host a panel of experts discussing how to crowdfund for an indie comic book project. The panel included indie creators Charlie McElvy (known for “Milestone: GodQuest,” “Spider-Squirrel,” and more), Anthony Stokes (known for “Tap or Die,” “Decay,” and more), and Pat Shand, the founder of “Space Between Entertainment.”
Here is the full conversation from the panel, including audience questions, titled “How To Crowdfund Your Indie Comic Book Project,” which was well-attended and enjoyable.
The following is a transcript of the introduction and the initial part of the Q&A session with our panelists:
ERIC PESOLA of INDIE COMICS ZONE: Welcome everyone to our panel on how to crowdfund your indie comic book project. I am Eric Pesola, and I run the website Indie Comics Zone, a platform where indie comic creators can publish free listings for promotion. I conduct interviews, write articles, and have nearly 500 indie comic projects listed on the site. I aim to support creators and their projects. You can find me on my website and all social media platforms. Now, let’s introduce our panelists for today: Charlie McElvy, Anthony Stokes, and Pat Shand.
CHARLIE McELVY: My advice for creators starting in crowdfunding is to keep going. This is your time to find your audience, build your team, and promote your work for success.
ANTHONY STOKES: Start early and establish a foothold in the crowdfunding world. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just get started.
PAT SHAND: Use Kickstarter as a roadmap for your crowdfunding campaigns. Study past campaigns to see what works and apply it to your own project. Learn from the experts and follow the basics to achieve success.
